For this assignment, you will be using the PBS website about the war. Once on this website, there are a lot of links to other resources that will help you to better understand Desert Storm. So much of the history of this war is just summarized into: We won quickly. Which is true, but there were still a lot of things happening here, and there are still veterans today dealing with the effects of this war. You are to look at at least 1 of each of the following: An Oral History–here you can read the transcripts from interviews with those in charge of the war effort. War Stories–here you can read the transcripts from interviews with one of the soldiers that fought in the war. There are a lot of resources on this page to look at–videos, photos, timelines–take the time to explore, it is a great resource! Assignment to turn in: Write a summary of the interview you chose to watch for Oral history AND for War stories (1 summary for each). Consider their experience at the time and how it has affected them since. Write a paragraph about the historical significance of this war. You can consider the following: How did this war change our attitude towards war since Vietnam? How did our attitude toward war after Vietnam affect decisions that were made during this war? How did technology change and affect the war? How has this war affected the country in the long term? You can think of veterans, and also later wars.
