Final Project: Objective: Using your knowledge of Biology, explain how COVID-19 impacts a human body and the environment. Process: Research COVID-19, being sure to choose reliable sources. Your presentation is based on facts, not opinion. Suggestions include the following, but you are not limited to this list: Cdc.gov ScienceDaily.com Who.int Osha.gov Nih.gov ScientificAmerican.com You will be creating a ppt presentation with audio. [You can convert it to a MP4 video or YouTube link if desired, but you MUST use ppt.] Be creative. Use your own words to express your learning experience using science terms that you have added to your vocabulary. You should not be reading or copying info. Instead, explain the material on your slides, like Dr. G does in her lecture videos. Your presentation should include the minimum following slides, you may use as many additional as you see fit. Introduction with your name Basic info about the virus’ structure – Is it a cell, why/why not? What molecules is it made of? What type of genetic material does it have? Etc. Include an image of the virus. Transmission – How is the virus spread from one individual to another? How can we prevent the spread? Pathology – Once the virus has entered the body, what does the virus do to cause harm? Defense – Once the virus has entered the body, what does the body do to try to fight it off? Can the body’s attack cause more harm? Positive environmental effects – What ‘good’ has this pandemic caused in our environment? What local effects have you seen in your own surroundings? *This slide may include your personal opinion. Negative environmental effects – What ‘bad’ has this pandemic caused in our environment? What local effects have you seen in your own surroundings? *This slide may include your personal opinion. References – List all websites and any other material you used to create your presentation, at least 3 sources are required. Each item should include a title and the weblink, along with any additional info you see fit. Grading Rubric: Creativity: 20% Correctness of the presentation, 20% (claim, correct explanation, justification in your words, use science language) Audio recording with the presentation 20% (clear and uniform audio). Completeness of the project, 20% (Did you include each of the required slides listed above? Did you explain your thoughts clearly? Did you have images to assist your explanations?) Correct grammar and Bibliography, 20% (grammar, language, sources, citation, and references) Tips: Do not plagiarize. (Significant points will be deducted on any plagiarized submission) Do not wait until the last minute. You can start TODAY, then add a little here and there throughout the course.
