Assignment Question

For this short paper to be accepted, you must accurately cite the exact page number or paragraph number that each major point from the textbook chapter/articles answering the question comes from in parentheses at the end of each sentence where you discuss that relevant point — for instance, like this: (Logic Textbook, page 352) or (Beauchamp, paragraph 3). For the Logic textbook and Rosenberg this will be page numbers, for Beauchamp and Willick it will be paragraph numbers. The assignment is:

Choose one Supreme Court decision from the Logic of American Politics “The Federal Judiciary” chapter that you think shows the Court at its greatest power and influence and why, and one that you think shows the Court at its weakest and least amount of influence and why, making sure to explain the rulings in both cases, and to cite the textbook page numbers.

Then using Rosenberg, explain what he means by the “fly-paper court” and what he identifies as the dangers for groups who try to use the court to create social change, again citing page numbers. Can you see any of these factors at work for groups that were for or against the Court’s 2022 ruling overturning Roe v. Wade and limiting abortion rights?

Finally, after reading the articles by Beauchamp and Willick, which side of the debate between the two authors do you find more persuasive – that the Court IS or IS NOT facing a legitimacy crisis? Why?
